Networking – What's It Really All About?

 

Networking is more than just passing out business cards or going to seminars.   It’s about building relationships.    These relationships will set the networking foundations for your business. 

 

Good networking starts with giving.   Yes, giving.   Before you jump the gun and start thinking what’s in it for me.   You should remember some of the best working partnerships are born out of helping others. 

 

When you help others without expectations in return, fantastic things will start to happen for you and your business. Others will start to trust and value you.   And you will definitely be helped in return.

 

 

6 Rules To Networking Your Way to Success

 

1. Give as much or more than you take.   Give freely and openly without expectations. 

 

2. Always try to do just a little bit extra for people.   If someone asks for help, help them.   And try to go the extra mile for them. 

 

3. Offer help and advice to those just getting started in your field.   Starting out is hard, we’ve all been there.   Genuinely help someone getting started.

 

4. Treat everyone with respect.   During a networking event don’t ignore people you think couldn’t possibly help your business.   You never know what it could lead to. Plus, it’s just plain rude to ignore people.  

 

5. Approach experts in your field and ask them about their success.   Do not tell them what you want or ask for favors.   Simply show interest in them.   And thank them if they have helped you or your business in some way. 

 

6. Show appreciation.   Show your clients, employees and business partners you appreciate them.   You don’t have to lavish them with gifts.   A sincere note or a few kind words will be enough to make them feel appreciated.

 

Follow these basic principles and you’ll be networking your way to success in no time.   There are networking opportunities all around you.   They don’t have to be specific business events.   Simply applying these rules in everyday life will help expand your network.   And you never know what each meeting could lead to.
