What is Medical Transcription

“Employment of medical transcriptionists is projected to grow faster than average for all occupations through 2014. Demand for medical transcription services will be spurred by a growing and aging population.”

U.S.Department of Labor

Bureau of Labor Statistics

Medical transcription refers to the typing or transcription of medical records.

Each time a patient sees a doctor, the doctor dictates (records) a summary of that visit for the patient's medical records.

The medical transcriptionist takes the voice recording and transcribes or types it in a legible format so that the notes or report can then be filed in the patient's medical records.

Becoming a medical transcriptionist is not only rewarding financially, but it is also a very stimulating and exciting career field. As an MT you learn medical terminology and no two transcriptions are ever the same.

This is a great field for anyone looking for a varied, interesting and financially stable long-term career option. MT's are in great demand and there seems to be no shortage of work for quality trained transcriptionists.
